Humanity has always sought to overcome existing boundaries. For example, a skyscraper that claims to be the “tallest building in the world” should appear, as a taller structure appears in a few years. So far, the mark of one kilometer has not been overcome, but the small thing is to wait for the completion of the construction of the Burj Al Mamlyak high-rise.

And we present a list from which you will find out how many floors are in the tallest building in the world.

We did not include antenna masts, concrete masts, chimneys and other technical structures in the list.

10. International Commercial Center - 484 meters

Location: Hong Kong

Hong Kong, in addition to its highly developed economy and high standard of living, is famous for a record number of skyscrapers. In total, there are 316 buildings in the metropolis, whose height exceeds the mark of 150 meters. But not one of them can be compared with the magnificent building of the World Trade Center.

Initially, the project of its creation provided for a height of 574 meters, but it had to be “cut back”, since it is impossible to build buildings in the city whose height exceeds the surrounding mountains.

Most of the floors of the center are reserved for offices, but on its top (from 118 to 102 floors inclusive) there is a five-star hotel, from whose rooms a wonderful view of Hong Kong opens, especially at dawn and sunset.

For comparison: the highest building of the already built in Russia - IFC "Federation" - reaches a height of 373.7 meters.

9. World Financial Center - 492 meters

Location: Shanghai, China

This skyscraper is only 16 meters lower than the eighth number in the list of the tallest buildings in the world. Because of the shape of the building, it is called a “bottle opener”.

The foundation stone of the skyscraper was laid in 1997, but due to the financial crisis in Asia, the project was frozen, and construction was resumed only in 2003. And the center was completely ready by 2008.

Initially, in the upper part of the building they wanted to make not a rectangular, but a round hole, symbolizing the sky and reducing the wind load on the building, but the designers considered that with a rectangular hole it would be cheaper and easier to implement the project.

8. Taipei 101 - 509 meters

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

It was the tallest skyscraper in the world from 2004 to 2007. It is named after its location and the number of floors in the building.

In addition, Taipei 101 is the first skyscraper in the world to overcome half a kilometer high and no one will take this title from him.

The design of the building is inspired by traditional Chinese architecture and resembles a pagoda in shape.

Since the building is located in a place where earthquakes and strong winds are not uncommon, its creators provided protection from natural disasters, providing the skyscraper with an external frame and an internal damper. This is a 660-ton ball made of 41 steel plates. It is suspended on eight steel cables, supported by eight shock absorbers and can move 1.5 meters in any direction. This is the largest and heaviest damper in the world.

The striking design of Taipei 101 was awarded the Emporis 2004 Best Skyscraper Award.

The elevators in this skyscraper are one of the fastest in the world, they rise at a speed of 1010 meters per minute (60.48 km / h) and decrease at a speed of 610 m / min (36.6 km / h). It is also interesting that the Chinese skyscraper is one of the few buildings in the world equipped with two-story elevators.

7. The financial center of the CTF - 530 meters

Location: Guangzhou, China

The seventh largest skyscraper in the world houses office space, a hotel, residential apartments and a shopping center.

Two of the 86 elevators installed in the Chinese high-rise can rise at a speed of 70-72.4 km / h or 19.4-20.1 m / s. These are the fastest elevators in the world. However, they lower twice as slowly as they rise.

The streamlined shape of the building virtually negates the impact of airflow on it.

6. World Trade Center 1 - 541.3 meters

Location: New York

The tallest skyscraper in the Big Apple, aka Freedom Tower, was erected on the site of the former World Trade Center, which was attacked by al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001.

The new building, 1,776 feet (541 meters) tall, is a reference to the year the United States Declaration of Independence was signed.

The creators of the tower took into account the sad experience gained during the evacuation of victims from the previous WTC.

  • Now there is a shelter on each floor of WTC 1, while elevators are located in the protected central tier of the building, which serves all floors of the tower.
  • The building also has an emergency staircase designed for firefighters, fire protection has been significantly improved, and the air supply system includes chemical and biological filters.
  • The 57-meter foundation of the structure is made of cast concrete, and in order to avoid a heavy look, the architects “equipped” the WTC 1 facade with prismatic blue glass blocks. They shimmer beautifully and sparkle in the sun.

On the territory of WTC 1, at the place where the twin towers were located, there is a Memorial in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack. We also have a museum dedicated to the events of 11.11.

5. Lotte World Tower - 554.5 meters

Location: Seoul, South Korea

A brand new skyscraper, built in 2017, got into the tallest buildings in the world. It is the highest in South Korea.

The first stone at the base of the tower was laid in 2005, but then the construction was slowed down due to the fact that the future skyscraper was located near the airport, and altitude restrictions applied to it. These restrictions were lifted in 2010, and the construction was “mothballed”.

Lotte is home to one of the best oceanariums in all of Asia, where you can even touch some of the marine life, and there are also many interesting shops, including the Ghibli studio store (released by “My Neighbor Totoro”, “Princess Mononoke” and many other animes)

The Russians made their own, albeit useless, but funny contribution to the history of the Lotte tower. Two Russian photographers climbed to the top of the crane and made a video of a skyscraper under construction.

4. International financial center Pinan - 599 meters

Location: Shenzhen, China

Initially, it was decided to build a skyscraper with a height of 660 meters. Thus, he was supposed to surpass the current Chinese leader - the Shanghai Tower. But everything was ruined by aviation. In order not to interfere with the flights of airplanes and other helicopters, the antenna was removed from the plan, thereby reducing the height of the building to the current 599 meters.

The facade of the building took 1.7 thousand tons of high-quality stainless steel. This material will allow the tower to maintain its aesthetic appearance longer, even taking into account the salty coastal atmosphere of the city.

3. Royal Clock Tower (Abraj al-Beit) - 601 meters

Location: Mecca, Saudi Arabia

The beautiful building, decorated with glass mosaics, is one of the new symbols of Mecca.

At the top of the skyscraper are giant tetrahedral watches, the dial of which is the largest in the world. Its dimensions are 45 by 43 meters and are comparable to the size of a small football field. Such a dial is visible from a distance of 12 meters during the day and 17 meters at night.

The tower is a luxury hotel that welcomes pilgrims who come to see the wonders of the holy Muslim city.

The skyscraper is part of the complex of towers Abraj al-Beit, which is considered the largest building on earth and the tallest in Saudi Arabia.

2. Shanghai Tower - 632 meters

Location: Shanghai, China

If you ask a resident of China, what is the tallest building in the world, he will probably name the pride of his country - the Shanghai Tower.

It has the world's tallest viewing platform, located inside the building, and is also the tallest building in China.

The tower spirals upward, this design allows you to compensate for the effect of wind at high altitude.

Brave Russian extremals (the same ones who climbed the Lotte tower) got into the construction site of a skyscraper and filmed about this video, which over the course of several years gained over 66 million views.

Caution, viewing fear may result in height!

1. Burj Khalifa - 828 meters

Location: Dubai, UAE

Here's the answer to the question of how many floors in the tallest skyscraper in the world. There are exactly 163. This was enough for luxury residential apartments (there are about 900 of them) and for a hotel with 304 rooms and for offices of various companies. There are also three underground garages that can accommodate 3,000 cars at a time.

The tower windows offer stunning views of the turquoise waters of an artificial lake at the foot of a skyscraper. There is a unique fountain on this lake, equipped with 6,000 light sources and with jets beating to a height of 150 meters. All this unforgettable sight is accompanied by musical accompaniment.

Despite the fact that the shape of the building is similar to the concept of the tubular tower of Willis Tower, it is structurally different and technically not a tubular structure. The outlines of the foundation give rise to associations with the desert flower of pankration. This was done not for the sake of beauty, but to facilitate the construction of a building whose height exceeds several hundred meters.

And the facade cladding system is designed to withstand the extreme summer temperatures of Dubai.

The building rests on a concrete and steel podium with 192 piles descending to a depth of more than 50 meters

At first they decided to call the skyscraper Burj Dubai. But during the grand opening ceremony of the building, it was renamed to Burj Khalifa, in honor of the President of the UAE, Khalifa ibn Zayed al-Nahyan.

The tallest building in the world in the future - Burj al Mamlyaka (1000 m)

However, not long before the Burj Khalifa will be called the highest skyscraper on Earth. In 2020, the construction of the Jeddah Tower (Burj al Mamlyaka), with a height of as much as 1 kilometer, should be completed. The initiator of the ambitious project is Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, who is the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia.

Adrian Smith, who led the construction of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper, was chosen as the architect.

In October 2017, 56 of the 167 planned floors of the tower were erected.
